As some of you are aware every year, The Rotary Foundation asks every Rotarian to donate $100.00 per year. The Foundation then invests the funds for 3-years working off the investment earned.  At the end of 3-years, half of the money donated by the Districts are returned to the Districts for projects of the clubs within the District.
Rotary members contribute their skills, expertise, and resources to help solve some of the world’s toughest problems. From providing clean water to promoting peace worldwide, Rotary Foundation grants bring service project ideas to life.

This year at a District training session, Maggie Peterson learned that the Greater Houston Veterans Club was eligible to apply for a grant in the amount of $500.00. With only 3 days to apply for the grant,  President Bob Gebhard told Maggie to move forward with writing the grant and if approved, the funds could be used for Camp Shield.  The grant would provide:
  1. Camp Shield t-shirt for the women
  2. Purchase hygiene needs for men and women,
  3. Purchase of school supplies for the children of Camp Shield.
The club will contribute $1,000.00 and the District will provide $500.00. This week Bob received approval to proceed with grant.

Congratulations to Maggie for completing and obtaining approval for the the Greater Houston Veterans first Rotary Foundation District Grant.
